Dr. Catherine Byrne, Ph.D.

About Me

I am licensed clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, and adults with a specialization in evidence-based treatment for eating disorders and body image concerns. I have received extensive training and education to support individuals struggling with these conditions.

Prior to graduate school, I worked at the University of Chicago Eating Disorders Program, which led to my significant interest and passion for the treatment of eating disorders. I hold a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from George Mason University, where I focused on both the research and treatment of eating disorders.

I completed my internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Child and Family Therapy Clinic, where I gained significant experience in treating a wide range of presenting diagnoses, including anxiety disorders, mood concerns, and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders. Eating disorders often present with comorbid concerns, and knowledge of evidence-based treatment for other disorders is important when providing eating disorder care.

I worked as a faculty member at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL for 2.5 years before moving to Charleston, SC.

I am trained in Family-Based Treatment (FBT), which is considered the leading treatment in for adolescent eating disorders. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Marquette University; Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University; Internship & Postdoctoral Fellowship Training at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
